Readout of Secretary of Defense Ash Carter’s Phone Call with Japanese Minister of Defense Gen Nakatani

Secretary Carter called Minister Nakatani today to thank him for his long-term support and to discuss the upcoming major events in the U.S.-Japan alliance.

Secretary Carter reaffirmed commitment to the U.S.-Japan alliance and to the Asia-Pacific rebalance. Both leaders highlighted upcoming revision of the Defense Guidelines as a major milestone in modernizing the alliance.

Both noted that they look forward to meeting during Secretary Carter’s upcoming visit to Japan.
