Readout of Meeting Between Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter was hosted by Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida for a working lunch today in Tokyo. They agreed that efforts on the revision of the Defense Guidelines and on the realignment of U.S. forces in Japan should continue. Secretary Carter and Minister Kishida also discussed the regional security situation. Secretary Carter looks forward to welcoming Minister Kishida to the United States soon for the 2+2 meeting ahead of Prime Minister Abe's visit to Washington later this month.
