Readout of Meeting Between Secretary Hagel and Indonesian Minister of Defence Purnomo Yusgiantoro

          Pentagon Press Secretary George Little provided the following readout:

          “Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel met with Indonesian Minister of Defence Purnomo Yusgiantoro May 31 at the annual Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. 

          “The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of deepening ties in support of the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership, an initiative of Presidents Barack Obama and Susilo BambangYudhoyono, calling for closer ties between our two governments and societies.  They reviewed progress made in recent years to increase exercises and training, as well as regular defense policy dialogues.

          “Secretary Hagel and Minister Yusgiantoro also discussed American support for Indonesia’s military modernization, including through U.S. Foreign military sales.  Secretary Hagel underscored the importance of human rights accountability for sustaining the momentum in our defense relationship.  Secretary Hagel said he looks forward to hosting Minister Yusgiantoro in Washington as soon as his schedule allows.”
