Readout of Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel's Meeting with Republic of Korea's Defense Minister Kim Kwan Jin

Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby provided the following readout:

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel met in Singapore today with the Republic of Korea's defense minister, Kim Kwan Jin. The two met on the sidelines of the annual Shangri-La Dialogue, a major annual forum for key leaders in the Asia-Pacific region to discuss security challenges and opportunities.

Secretary Hagel and Minister Kim discussed a range of shared security concerns, including the current state of affairs with North Korea, the importance of ballistic missile defense and the continuing improvement of the Republic of Korea's defense capabilities.

Both Secretary Hagel and Minister Kim reiterated the importance of their nations' strategic alliance as central to the region's continued stability and security.
