℠2015 – The U.S. Marine Corps' F-35B Lightning II aircraft reached initial operational capability July 31, standing ready for world-wide deployment. The F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multirole fighters undergoing final development and testing by the United States. The fifth generation combat aircraft is designed to perform ground attack, aerial reconnaissance, and air defense missions. Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 (VMFA-121), based in Yuma, Arizona is the first squadron in military history to become operational with an F-35 variant.
