An additional 987 Army reservists and Army National Guard members are being called to active duty today as part of the partial mobilization authorized by President Bush. This brings the total Army reserve force soldiers called to active duty to 13,416 to date.

The soldiers called to active duty in this announcement serve in 42 different units from 18 states. Among the specialties represented by these units are military intelligence, military police, civil affairs, infantry and maintenance.

Also, 100 members of the Naval Reserve are being called to active duty. This brings the total Naval Reserve called to active duty to 4,750 to date.

The majority of these Naval reservists have been recalled individually based on specific skills, primarily law enforcement and security. Other skills as part of the mobilization include medical, supply, intelligence and other specialties.

In addition, 82 more members from an Air Force Reserve Command unit, as well as 199 more individual mobilization augmentees have been called to active duty. Also, an additional 507 Air National Guard members have been called to active duty. This brings the total called to active duty in the Air Force to 13,853.

At any given time, services may mobilize some units and individuals while demobilizing others, making it is possible for these figures to either increase or decrease.

Total number currently called to active duty for the Army National Guard and Army Reserve is 13,416; Naval Reserve, 4,750; Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, 13,853; Marine Corps Reserve, 373; and the Coast Guard Reserve 2,481. This brings the total Reserve and National Guard called to active duty to 34,873 from 399 units, 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and individual augmentees.
