Photo, caption below.
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld expresses his condolences to Jane Weinberger, wife of the late Caspar W. Weinberger, at the funeral for her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., on April 4, 2006. Weinberger took office as the 15th defense secretary on Jan. 21, 1981, and served until Nov. 23, 1987, making him the longest serving defense secretary to date. During his tenure in office, Weinberger spearheaded President Ronald Reagan's peacetime military buildup. Weinberger died on March 28, 2006, at the age of 88.
