Future Force Test Directorate
By Operational Test Command Public Affairs Office
FORT HOOD, Texas, Jan. 28, 2005 – Within the Operational Test Command, the Future Force Test Directorate continues at the forefront of the Army's Transformation efforts. As such, it serves as the Command's lead in the operational testing of the Army's future combat systems.

Created in 1994, and redesignated during 2002 to reflect the Transformation mission, this Directorate at West Fort Hood, Texas was originally formed to centralize efforts of Force XXI initiatives and the proliferation of Advanced Warfighting Experiments.

This directorate was chartered to project itself well into the 21st Century and assist other command test directorates in absorbing future technological trends in their test planning.

The Future Force Test Directorate remains responsible for operational testing of future combat systems and the integration of complementary systems into the system-of systems and the family of systems.

The Future Force Test Directorate continues as the lead directorate for Operational Test Command support to Army transformation experiments, advanced warfighting experiments, advanced concepts technology demonstrations, and advanced technology demonstrations where future combat systems unit of action, unit of employment, and joint operations are the focus.

Having reconfigured itself to meet the challenges of testing future combat systems and transformation support, the

directorate is currently engaged in supporting one of the Army's initial transformation efforts.

By providing technical and data collection support to Task Force Modularity, the directorate is assisting the Army in establishing its first unit of action.

Concurrently, work continues in the area of future combat systems testing. Due to its complexity and reliance on a network-centric-environment, the Future Force Test Directorate has been called upon to reexamine its current testing norms and to think "outside the box" in developing future testing parameters.

New testing procedures will be required in order to collect relevant test data on future combat systems units of action and units of employment which will be equipped with networked, modular systems capable of distributed seamless joint and combined operations over a vastly dispersed battlefield.

Meeting and overcoming the testing challenges that are posed by future combat systems continue to be the prime focus of the directorate's mission.

From the planning and execution of a series of limited user tests through the execution of a comprehensive initial operational test, the directorate's personnel remain dedicated to ensuring America's soldiers are provided with systems which have succeeded in realistic operational testing.
